Nitrous Oxide

Behavior Management Techniques
Anesthesia center
Our pediatric dental practice is designed with you and your child in mind.  We offer a number of different treatment modalities. In addition to local anesthetic, the localized numbing of the teeth, gums, lips, cheeks, etc., our mildest form of sedation is nitrous oxide.

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas or happy air) is an inhalation form of sedation that places the child patient in a very relaxed state of mind.  We do not use it at anesthetic levels.  Rather we slowly introduce it to the child through a nosepiece and constantly not only ask the child how they are doing, but also monitor their level of sedation.  This usually works well with children who are cooperative, but just need a little help sitting with their mouth open for an extended period of time.
